I predict…

That Google will shortly buy a social networking site. My bet is that after purchasing Zingku and Jaiku, they are ready to see who matures better. My bet is on Facebook, although more people (by far) use MySpace. Facebook, however, if gaining users rapidly, and they are money-spending consumers. This is an important fact when connecting people to advertising they may like i swhere most of Google’s money comes from…
I also predict that in a decade, all of our social networking actions/updates, posts, items, photos, locations will be indexed and searchable to give Google, and whoever holds the cards, access to the most complete profiles of a person or groups of people one can find. What are the ramifications? Many and deep… What would you with that information if you could make money with it? Scary thought.
Would it make you want to not share anything ever again? Or would you just give in and let it happen? Or would you opt-in to every kind of information-sharing agent (like Facebook apps…). You know, every time you tell an app in Facebook to allow access, you’re giving the creator of that app, or whoever paid for development of that app, access to the information in your profile. It’s like adding a friend, folks.
Anyway, I see the writing on the wall. Google becomes SkyNet, Big Brother and your daddy all at once. I hope Google stays friendly :)
EDIT: Oh, damn. I forgot about Google FriendConnect. Well, I still stick to my prediction. Their cashflow is very good, and if they want to become #1, 2 and 3 most-searched sites on the internet (Google and YouTube), then I think this is the next natural acquisition.
