TV on the Radio: Show Review and Photos
Posted on | October 16, 2008 |
Last night I went to see TV on the Radio. I had been waiting nearly 2 years to see them for the first time, and right now I am still riding a wave of musical bliss.
First off, I got there in time to have a delicious dinner - which I reviewed as Road Trip Worthy over at lifeisaroadtrip.com.
Secondly, I mis-read the Google maps on my iPhone (idiot) and took a nice, long walk down Lafayette Ave. Ah, to learn more about Brooklyn is never a waste of time.
Finally caught up to my friends and we went inside… The Brooklyn Masonic Temple is a tiny venue - really cozy. I totally dig it.
And I was relieved that the door guys were relaxed and let me in with my D700. Dream come true - I get my favorite low-light camera with a fast lens to shoot one of my favorite bands playing live.
At this time, I can’t find a setlist posted, but it’s certainly different than what I saw posted at BrooklynVegan’s site (scroll to bottom), because I heard Love Dog. The only song I missed hearing was Ambulance, but the did play Dirty LIttle Whirlwind EDIT: Dirty Whirl, as pointed out in comments ;) , which kicked major ass.
The vocals were a bit buried, but the energy was so high I forgive ‘em ;) The rest was pure gold. And the D700 shone like a diamond - great glass for a great night. Here are my pics:

And to top it all off, I got some time to have a drink with new friends, get to know them better and have some really interesting conversation with intelligent, happy (and like-minded on some fundamental things in life) and just downright awesome people. That, I say, makes for a just perfect evening. EDIT: t-sides posted the setlist here, a review plus a YouTube of Dirty Whirl (and a linkback to this post!) |

[...] On my way to see TV on the Radio last night, I dropped by Bonita at 338 Bedford Ave in Brooklyn, NY for a little pre-show eats. Ho-lee yum. [...]

Brooklyn Masonic Hall is far from a tiny venue. Glasslands, Cake Shop, Pianos and Mercury Lounge are tiny venues—all os which would fit on less than half the floor of Brooklyn Masonic.
Also, the song is called “Dirty Whirl.” What kind of fan are you anyway?

Thanks for the comments ;) I’ll have to check out the other venues. In respect to the normal focal lengths I use when shooting, it’s certainly a small venue. And my bad on the song name - sometimes I just focus on enjoying the music instead of technical details. Will edit with a note above.
