Brandon Remler’s 9/11 Photographs
Posted on | September 12, 2008 |
For some time now, I’ve been the lucky recipient of Brandon Remler’s weekly emails. What’s he send? Gorgeous and interesting photographs. Brandon works for Fujifilm USA and we met… oh 10 years ago… when I was first working for MAC Group (then named Mamiya America Corporation). I spent my days training the sales staff at B&H how to sell the only lines we had at the time: Mamiya, Sekonic and Toyo. Times have changed. But I digress…
Brandon and I have seen each other at countless trade shows, dealers and even parties over the last decade. It was only in the last year I found out the other half… he shoots photographs like a madman. It’s as necessary as breathing to Brandon, as I see it. Take this week’s photo, for instance:
I was stunned. We all have our memories of 9/11, and I don’t mean to play on that. I really, really love this photograph. I’m a fan of night photography, Brooklyn (and this was shot from Brooklyn), and intense images.
Soft water and city skyline frame up the twin beacons of light while the clouds seem to race by. There’s also a wonderful time element here… It’s seven years later and all of these natural elements in motion remind me that time heals all and the world moves on, despite what we do to hold on.
So I told Brandon to quit his day job. I want to see more stuff like this. I don’t think he’s going to listen to me, but I am certain he is going to keep shooting.
See the individual images here (I just spotted Gabe and Angelia in some of them!), and check out the animated gif of the whole sequence he shot that night (give it a chance to load).
You can browse his weekly emails here.
EDIT: Brandon just sent me this shot from two years ago:
