Beware the shoals!
Posted on | September 17, 2008 |
There are dangerous shoals on the eastern shore of the Hudson River at Tarrytown. You are warned.
This evening I ate my favorite Greek salad at Lefteris in Tarrytown and moseyed over to Kingsland Point Park to shoot some photos of the Lighthouse.
It was sunset when I arrived, and there were no more than seven people in this idyllic park. What a beautiful evening. Perfect for me to get to know my D700 a little better. A bonding experience.
So, I snapped 92 or so photos at various ISO settings. I was glad to get in the park, as it closes after 9pm. I did notice last time I got there around 11pm that they don;t lock it up… so I may come back with a tripod for some night shooting.
I had tried twice before to get to the lighthouse. I figure it was easiest from Tarrytown, but no way - there is a large industrial section blocking access to the lighthouse, so you have to drive up Route 9A into Sleepy Hollow and then look for signs to Philipse Manor Train Station and turn left when you’re about to drive into the river:
But I had a wonderful, relaxing session enjoying the sunset and twilight. Full set here
