Cities

Posted on | October 23, 2008 |

When reading The Long Tail, I came across the passage regarding cities and the diversity spawned by large groups of people living in close proximity.

I am sitting in Times Square right now, pondering how tourists come to experience the large glitz of The Big Apple, and flock to the large, red stairs over the tkts booth. Sure, it’s a photo op, but it’s also a massive advertising space.

I do like the stairs; they are quite beautiful. And having a high vantage in Times Square is something great to stop and appreciate. But, it lacks substance. It’s all glam.

I was here. It’s mostly what I see people recording. I do not see any gems of diversity, and that is kind of sad. I want to see all those other things in the places that people gather. Funny thing is that it’s proabably what many of these people have at home ;)

Relaxing fir a bit ain’t bad, though.
