What is true responsibility?

Posted on | November 5, 2008 |

It’s a big question. Since everything in life is truly subjective, I say that responsibility is a personal belief that we each must choose to hold in our own ways.

At this moment, the election is being called in favor of Barack Obama. Hope. Hope, is the key word used by all the campaign posted, shirts, banners and image bugs I’ve seen, as much as I have tried to avoid being in contact with any of it.

Hope.

Hope combats ennui.

As dictionary.com defines “hope”

1. the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best: to give up hope.
2. a particular instance of this feeling: the hope of winning.
3. grounds for this feeling in a particular instance: There is little or no hope of his recovery.
4. a person or thing in which expectations are centered: The medicine was her last hope.
5. something that is hoped for: Her forgiveness is my constant hope.

–verb (used with object)

6. to look forward to with desire and reasonable confidence.
7. to believe, desire, or trust: I hope that my work will be satisfactory.

–verb (used without object)

8. to feel that something desired may happen: We hope for an early spring.
9. Archaicto place trust; rely (usually fol. by in).

10. hope against hope, to continue to hope, although the outlook does not warrant it: We are hoping against hope for a change in her condition.

There are apparently many things in the media now that people are talking about: police actions in foreign lands, recession, stock market woes, apparently bad leadership, and I believe all these things do affect many people. But it does affect more people in an adverse way than I believe necessary. The media effect echoes and reverberates opinions loud and long… But in the end, whose responsibility is it to change the world? Each and every one of us.

Many chose to add their personal power to today by voting in favor of a man who stands for change. Change from what we’re unhappy about to perhaps what we can be happy with. I hope this is the case. In no way am I stating a negative view of this, I just know that I take my personal responsibilities very seriously.

This is one reason why I did not vote. I do not watch television, read the newspaper, listen to radio or engage in news media on the Web. I was and remain am blissfully unaware of all details leading up to today’s win by Obama. I am glad that people are happy at this moment, however, I remain clear in believing that we all make change on a daily basis one thing at a time.

Congratulations to everyone who believed passionately in hope. Please keep participating as passionately. Do not remove hope from your motivators. Roll up your sleeves, keep smiling and start changing the world YOU live in.

And true responsibility? What do you believe in? Good. Live up to it. They are your beliefs, now go live them.
