Whiskey and Apples (record label)
My first Peter and the Wolf CD was found at a vinyl shop in Williamsburg, waiting for me on the used CD rack. Something rang a bell… maybe I dimly remembered getting a track off largeheartedboy… The CD was “Lightness” and it blew me away.
Right now you can hear “The Ivy Remix” and “Ghost Sandals” on their MySpace page, but you’ve got to hear more to hear the depth. When you order the physical CDs from the label, Whiskey and Apples, you get hand-drawn CD covers and CDs, which may take a few extra days, but is worth the wait.
Austinite Red Hunter is a singer/songwriter who gathers his friends about him to make music that is resonant with sincerity, caring and ties that bind. Pitchfork gave him some love on the debut, and he deserves it. more after the jump
My favorite track off Lightness is Safe Travels. I feel like a kid again when I listen to it. The smell of grass, climbing tress, running away in a cloud of happy over a hill.
Here are the covers for the Original Demos (still available here) and Ivori Palms (not available right now on their site):

Note there is another band with the same name in the U.K. Also good in their own right, they are more rock/pop. Red’s Peter and the Wolf music is introspective, folksy, and darling.
The songs are not available on Amazon - my new choice for digital downloads - but they are available on iTunes (if you’re still into DRM). The three albums that are Red and company are, “Lightness“, “The Ivori Palms” and “Peter and the Wolf“. You can also purchase them direct from the label here. Looks like I need to pick up “Experiments in Junk” :)
Check out Daytrotter for four downloads. And, on the MySpace, they announce a new CD in the works, plus a European tour starting September 12.
