Having a great pair of glasses makes a difference

These are not my current glasses, just a pair I saw while getting mine fixed this morning. If I had the bux to get another pair, it would be these.
There is something great about sharp eyewear. It’s like using punctuation correctly… Or even custom framing for art. It defines the face by putting a visual statement around something entirely functional - correcting imperfect vision.
I have astigmatism and some farsightedness. Up until this recent prescription, I also had prism glass because my last optician thought the pain I was feeling was strain from my eye muscles trying to converge, but not being strong enough; the prism glass tricks the eyes into converging. Fortunately, that expensive add-on the the lenses is no more.
Anyway, up until this point in my life, I’ve chosen mostly functional frames. Wide field of vision, sturdy, plastic arms (Since the sides of my head have some acidic qualities that eats into metal over time, LOL) and usually an easily affordable price tag.
This time around, I took advantage of a new medical plan benefit to get the pair of frames that I liked most. And I really dig ‘em. They have many of the above qualities, except they are half-frames and the lower portion is held in by monofilament. No big deal - I treat my specs good - but two weeks ago they were in the case in my pocket and it bumped out when exiting a doorway onto the ground. Stinky.. one lens popped out and it’s not something I could figure out. Miffed me for two reasons: 1) I usually but frames I can fix anytime and this pair I missed looking at that important fact and 2) the place I bought them is in Grand Central Station, a train ride away.
So, this morning I made time to hop in the train and get ‘em fixed. Only took them 5 minutes and they did it with a smile. Great place - almost warrants the price ;)
While I waited for the next train I visited the Food Market at GC for the first time. I’ve been told it’s wonderful before, and now I believe. Super-yumminess abounds. Picked up some Guatemalan coffee, sourdough bread, and a chicken & mushroom mini-pie for tonight. Now I can batten down the hatches and let Tropical Storm Hannah blow up the Hudson later today.
I’ve got my glasses, some grub and the time on the train allowed me mental space to figure an essential solution I needed for the stop-motion film project that’s in the planning stages. w00t! I also picked up some grip equipment from the darkroom I’m cleaning out at my folk’s place last weekend and this sealed the deal for the shooting rig in the apartment. The pieces are all falling into place. And I’ll be able to see to focus - bonus for you.
